A recent art exhibition held at Tollinton Art Gallery showcased the work of Rida Zainab, who is an artist, avid reader and clinical nutritionist based in Lahore. Her evocative work drew an engrossed audience at the show’s opening.
‘I, Rida Zainab, am a graduate of NUR International University and a clinical nutritionist by profession. I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics (Gastroenterology) in 2023 from the same institution and have trained and worked at Fatima Memorial Hospital.
My art resonates deeply with the suffering of the world and aspires to contribute to the collective awakening of humanity. It is my endeavour to reveal humanity’s most intimate thoughts through eye portraiture mostly by using ballpoint pen and pastels, micron pens, acrylics, markers, watercolour and calligraphy.
My work is inspired by eye miniatures and the idea that the eye is the window to the soul, a reflection of a person’s deepest thoughts, as well as a symbol of vigilance and watchfulness. Though we often try to suffer in silence as a form of self preservation, our anatomy will not always confirm our evasions. Our eyes are apt to betray us when we most wish to control them and to reveal the pain that is lurking beneath the surface. I very much hope you will see that in my work’
